Origin
Originating from Paris in 1857 where women wrapped their faces with slices of beef to avoid signs of aging, and then the discovery of using pre cup cloth infused skin moisturising agents such as vitamins and oils. However, it was Japan and even more so Korea, known as the market leaders for face sheets, who have made this phenomenon part of the regular beauty routine it is today.
What are they
Simply, a sheet mask is a delivery system made up of a variety of materials including papers, fibres or gel types which are soaked in a concentrated serum. There is a myriad of beneficial ingredients used in the serums such as hyaluronic acid and vitamins.
How to use
Apply to a clean face and leave on for 20 minutes, give or take. You can choose to relax for that time or continue your routine while the sheet mask does its job. Then remove and discard and pat the excess serum gently into the skin. That’s it! Then continue with your usual beauty routine.
How do they work
The theory behind the sheet mask is that they prevent quick evaporation to help penetration of nutrient laden serums deep into the skin. This concentrated treatment therefore outperforms traditional serum-type skincare even when applied once.

Types of materials used

-Bio Cellulose is a super thin natural fibre that is grown in a lab by tiny bacteria that convert glucose into cellulose, forming the fibres that make up the fabric of the sheet masks.
