The Silk Sheet Mask – Where have you been all my life?

Facial sheet masks have been, and continue to be, the hottest beauty product to hit the skincare scene. They are a convenient and effective way to obtain an intense hydration boost in a short period of time. Be it on the go – think long haul travel, while attending to those weekend chores, or for an excuse to relax and take 20 minutes of ‘me-time’.

Today they are used worldwide, and their popularity continues to grow at a rapid rate.  One thing we know if that they’re here to stay for sure!

Origin

Originating from Paris in 1857 where women wrapped their faces with slices of beef to avoid signs of aging, and then the discovery of using pre cup cloth infused skin moisturising agents such as vitamins and oils. However, it was Japan and even more so Korea, known as the market leaders for face sheets, who have made this phenomenon part of the regular beauty routine it is today.

What are they

Simply, a sheet mask is a delivery system made up of a variety of materials including papers, fibres or gel types which are soaked in a concentrated serum. There is a myriad of beneficial ingredients used in the serums such as hyaluronic acid and vitamins.

How to use

Apply to a clean face and leave on for 20 minutes, give or take. You can choose to relax for that time or continue your routine while the sheet mask does its job. Then remove and discard and pat the excess serum gently into the skin. That’s it! Then continue with your usual beauty routine.

How do they work

The theory behind the sheet mask is that they prevent quick evaporation to help penetration of nutrient laden serums deep into the skin. This concentrated treatment therefore outperforms traditional serum-type skincare even when applied once.

Benefits

Unlike skin care treatments such as deep cleansing or exfoliating, sheet masks are aimed at deep hydration, balancing, moisturising, calming and skin brightening. The concentrated treatment will leave your skin hydrated, rejuvenated and glowing plus help to restore a dull appearance.

Used before makeup application they will give you a hydrated canvas where makeup will glide on seamlessly and crease free. That coupled with the instant benefits is why sheet masks are hugely popular before runway shows. A makeup artist go to product!

Ingredients used

With the increasing popularity of sheet masks, coupled with technology, there is now a huge array of sheet masks available to target different concerns from brightening to detoxifying and treating acne. A more plump and rejuvenated appearance is usually a given as the sheet mask will drench your skin in hydration.

Our S2 collagen firming & moisturising masks are laden with vitamins and nutrients for the skin such as Hyaluronic Acid (HA) which helps retain moisture to the skin creating plumpness, Licorice Extract with anti-inflammatory and soothing qualities to help restore suppleness to the skin, and Vitamin E with its moisturising and healing properties plus its ability to prevent oxidative damage to cells by helping to remove free radicals.

Types of materials used

Although there has been new mask sheet technology of late there are 4 main ‘sheet’ fabrics;

-Fibre (non-woven) which behaves like paper and although effective, lacks the contouring to remain in place for very long (so you will need to lie down)

-Pulp which has a finer texture than fibre

-Hydro-gel mask are often produced as a mask system with top and bottom and halves that are applied separately. The mask is produced from cosmetic serums and gelatin.

-Bio Cellulose is a super thin natural fibre that is grown in a lab by tiny bacteria that convert glucose into cellulose, forming the fibres that make up the fabric of the sheet masks.

Our silk sheet masks are made from plant fibre and are a luxurious fit providing a skin-tight dermal adhesion, contouring to the face allowing for premium product penetration. They are thinner than typical fibre masks with a fit akin to silk. When applied they adhere to the face without having to reapply or lay down for your treatment.

Recommendations to take your results to the next level!

The single best thing to do post Derma Rolling is to use a sheet mask!

We recommend using our 0.3mm Derma Roller beforehand to target anything from acne scarring to pigmentation, or just to brighten dull skin! A Derma Roller uses tiny titanium needles to penetrate the surface of the skin creating micro channels which encourage absorption and effectiveness by up to 40% of serums and elixirs to the outer dermal layer. Follow by applying our soothing S2 collagen firming & moisturising silk sheet mask and your skin will drink the nutrient laden serum which basically means results are amplified!

To complete your treatment, with your mask still on or off,  follow with the Lonvitalite Ice Roller which will not only soothe and minimise redness but help to increase blood flow, drain excess fluid, which in turn can help to depuff the face.

A winning combination to leave your skin glowing!
