WHY YOU NEED TO USE AN EYE CREAM

You may cleanse, tone and moisturise beauties, but how many of you use an eye cream? Eye creams should be a crucial part of your skincare routine because well, in comparison to the skin on the rest of your face, the skin around your eyes drew the short straw. This is because it is so much thinner, and also doesn’t have very many oil glands – making it prone to fine lines and wrinkles. BUT you can prevent and prolong these side effects by using an eye cream, thank goodness.

Before you even think ‘oh I’ll just use a regular face cream around my eyes,’ let me just tell you that you can’t, or rather you shouldn’t. Eye creams differ greatly from regular facial creams. They are much more hydrating and a lot more gentle on the skin. And often they exclude fragrance and other additives that can make sensitive skin freak out.

Fine lines around the eye area is one of the first signs of ageing, so it’s important to start using an eye cream in your early 20’s. Eye creams can also help to combat dark circles, dehydration and puffiness – all of which are not our friends. You should use an eye cream both AM and PM, however you can use a lighter cream or gel eye cream for during the day, and a thicker one at night.

If you’re concerned about dark circles, try Clinique Even Better Eyes Dark Circle Corrector, or Yes To Grapefruit Dark Circle Correcting Eye Cream.
If dehydration is getting you down, use Ultraceuticals Ultra Moisturiser Eye CreamJurlique Herbal Recovery Eye Gel or Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration Eye Cream.
Are you worried about wrinkles? Decrease fine lines and prevent further ones with Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye.
If puffiness is more your problem, there’s nothing better than an eye mask to soothe sensitive skin. Two of my favourites are SK-II Signs Eye Mask and Lonvitalite 24K Active Gold Eye Mask

You should also feel free to apply your eye cream not only underneath your eyes, but also above and on your lid. Your whole eye area needs special attention, not just underneath. Also apply with your ring finger in a patting motion, rather than dragging the skin – I wasn’t kidding when I said it was extra delicate!

Do you use an eye cream? If so, which one?
